Advocating for Stronger Asphalt Shingle Codes & Expanded Recycling
For many years, post-manufactured and post-consumer asphalt shingle waste was successfully recycled into asphalt paving, providing both a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to landfill disposal. At one time, asphalt paving companies even paid for post-manufacturing waste due to the value of the unaged asphalt. As paving regulations evolved to become more sustainable, the industry prioritized …

What did you do before joining Polyco?
I started in 2000, and now, 20-plus years later, I’m back in the asphalt game working with Polyco.
My first job in asphalt was selling liquid asphalt in Ogden, Utah, for a company called Pioneer Oil Company. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people, so I got out there, started talking with contractors, and got involved in the industry. Over the next seven years, I worked across Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming, selling liquid asphalt to hotmix plants.
From there, my sales career really took off. I held various roles in the construction industry but always found my way back to asphalt sales. I had the opportunity to work with some well-known companies in the industry, like Ingevity and Surface Tech, where I got to be involved with cutting-edge asphalt and pavement preservation technologies. These experiences helped keep my career in asphalt moving forward.
What are you most excited about at Polyco?
If a product that I’m about to sell is brand new to the industry, if it’s just being launched, that’s really exciting to me. Polyco offers that adventure. This is a technology that we’ve had for a few years, but it’s still burgeoning in the paving industry. We’ve been doing roofing asphalt for a long time, but now that we’re really trying to expand that market into the paving industry, it affords me a great opportunity to go out and introduce something that could really benefit the industry. I really enjoy it when there is something new, and I can be one of the first people to introduce clients to that technology.
Why is sustainability at Polyco important?
I care about leaving the world better than I found it, so using recycling technologies like Polyco’s patented RDP process is a compelling aspect of my new job. Getting to promote a product that adds to the performance of our infrastructure and uses sustainable technology that reduces waste tire rubber from our environment aligns with my environmentally conscious mindset. I look forward to making our roadways better with cleaner technology like SigmaBond!
What do you love to do outside of work?
I have quite a few hobbies! I’m an avid fly fisherman—my American grandpa taught me how to fly fish when I was 13, and I’ve loved it ever since!
I’ve also been practicing Judo since I was 17, and now I’m a Judo coach. I co-lead the largest Judo program in Austin with my coaching partner, and we’ve grown our juniors program to its biggest size ever. Judo is my greatest passion, and I love teaching it.
