John Barrington

Vice President of Sales & Marketing

What does a typical day look like for you at Polyco?

My role consists of bringing our products to market in both the roofing and paving industries and uncovering new opportunities to grow our reach. I support our sales team as best as I can and leverage my long-standing relationships with industry leaders to promote Polyco’s products.

What did you do before joining Polyco?

My journey in the asphalt industry began at Auburn University when I was a civil engineering student and worked as a lab tech at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT). Little did I know that my early exposure at NCAT would lead to 30+ years working with asphalt in traditional applications such as Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), emulsions, shingle coatings and adhesives and specialty product applications. My stops included employment with APAC, SEM Materials, Shell Oil Products, Blacklidge Emulsions and Safety-Kleen. I’ve been fortunate to see asphalt and asphalt based products used in many applications across several industries. In a way, I think I can consider myself an asphalt expert.

What are you most excited about at Polyco?

What I like most about being at Polyco and what gets me excited is that we have innovative products and are able to make decisions collectively about how we want to bring them to market. It’s like planting a seed … with some care we get to watch the fruit of our labor grow.

Why is sustainability at Polyco important?

There’s a tremendous amount of growth potential for our Rapid Digestion Process (RDP) in a market where sustainability is becoming more important. There are more programs being created to incentivize sustainability — both at the state and federal levels — so we are well positioned to take advantage of that.

What does the future look like for Polyco?

I believe RDP will continue to be pivotal to Polyco’s future success. We have the opportunity to extend this technology not only across the country but also on other continents. The possibilities are endless.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Family first. My wife, Barbara, and I have been married for 34 years and we have four kids — the youngest is now a senior in college. I like being on the water, enjoying everything from kayaking to deep sea fishing. I also like to keep myself busy around the house with home improvement projects. On more low-key weekends, my wife and I like to visit our local farmers market, enjoy great local restaurants and attend festivals with our kids.
